Conversion of Point Cloud to 3D Modeling

Point Cloud to 3D Modeling Services

Convert captured site geometry into engineering models.

Convert scan data into an engineering model that can be used for layout, coordination and modification work. Teckniv reconstructs existing equipment, piping, structures and building elements from point-cloud information. We agree the required detail and verification approach so the output is suited to the project, rather than simply producing a visually complete model.

Who we support

Brownfield project teams, plant owners and design consultants that already have scan data and need a usable engineering model for coordination or modification work.

01 / Engineering capabilities

Capabilities shaped around your project.

The scope is agreed around the decisions, interfaces and engineering outputs your team needs. These work areas can be combined into a defined package.

Data preparation

Review scan formats, registration, coordinates and coverage. Clean and organize the data while identifying areas that cannot be reliably interpreted.

Model reconstruction

Develop geometry for the agreed disciplines and scope. Establish modeling conventions, component representation and the level of information required.

Engineering coordination

Integrate the model with available CAD, BIM and engineering records. Review proposed changes against existing geometry and identify potential conflicts.

Accuracy review and documentation

Check the modeled representation against the scan evidence using the agreed criteria. Record exclusions, gaps and items requiring site confirmation.

02 / Your engineering package

Clear deliverables. Ready for the next team.

The deliverable list is agreed at the start. Each issue identifies its purpose, revision and outstanding inputs for the next project stage.

  • Point-cloud review and data-gap register
  • Scan-based 3D or BIM model
  • Discipline layouts and agreed model outputs
  • Coordination and clash-review findings
  • Verification records and exceptions
  • Native and exchange files for handover

03 / How we work

A clear route from requirement to handover.

We establish the design basis first, then develop and review the package with your project team.

  1. 01

    Agree the requirement

Assess the scan data and agree the modeling specification.

  2. 02

    Develop the package

Reconstruct the required elements and coordinate disciplines.

  3. 03

    Review & coordinate

Check model alignment and record uncertain areas.

  4. 04

    Issue & hand over

Issue the verified model with its documented limitations.

04 / The technical context

Aligned with your facility and requirements.

The equipment duty, project location and client standards determine the methods, platforms and acceptance criteria.

Industries & applications

Industrial process plants, utility installations and facilities where existing piping, equipment, structures or building services must be represented for engineering use.

Software & digital delivery

Point-cloud processing and CAD/BIM modeling platforms are selected for the input data and output model. Published workflows include ReCap, Cyclone, Faro Scene, CloudCompare, Revit, AutoCAD and MicroStation as applicable. File compatibility is reviewed before modeling begins.

Standards & design basis

Acceptance is based on agreed coordinate control, element coverage, modeling tolerance and information requirements. Registration quality, scan gaps and deviations between the cloud and model are recorded so the model’s reliability can be assessed.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers to common scope and coordination questions.

Can scans from different site visits be combined?
They can be reviewed for compatibility, but coordinate control, registration and changes between capture dates must be reconciled. The modeling basis should identify which dataset represents the condition required for each area.
What controls model accuracy?
Scan quality, registration, coverage, modeling rules and verification all affect the result. Required tolerances are agreed for the specific project.
Can a point cloud reveal hidden or insulated components?
Only surfaces captured by the scanner are directly represented. Hidden details, wall thicknesses and insulated geometry may require other records or site checks and should not be treated as measured facts.
What should be included in a scan-to-model handover?
The agreed native or exchange model, coordinate information, scope and tolerance statement, review findings and a record of gaps or assumptions. These help the next team judge where further verification is necessary.
