Marine Engineering

Marine Engineering Services

Coordinate marine systems around vessel requirements.

Coordinate vessel design, onboard systems and production information around the intended operating duty. Teckniv supports shipyards, owners and marine project teams from concept development through detailed engineering and retrofit integration. The work brings hull, machinery, piping, electrical and outfitting interfaces into a consistent design package.

Who we support

Vessel owners, shipyards and marine project teams developing a new vessel, conversion or onboard-system retrofit with coordinated design and production requirements.

01 / Engineering capabilities

Capabilities shaped around your project.

The scope is agreed around the decisions, interfaces and engineering outputs your team needs. These work areas can be combined into a defined package.

Concept and basic ship design

Develop mission requirements, general arrangements, weight inputs and preliminary performance assessments. Prepare hull, stability and system information for the agreed design stage.

Detailed and production engineering

Develop structural drawings, piping isometrics, cable routes, equipment foundations and outfitting details. Coordinate penetrations, access and production information across disciplines.

Analysis and technical review

Support structural, thermal, flow and vibration studies where required. Define the study basis and coordinate design submissions with the project’s selected class and approval requirements.

Retrofit and lifecycle work

Develop arrangements for equipment replacements and system additions, including space and connection reviews. Support integration drawings, dry-dock planning inputs and as-built updates.

02 / Your engineering package

Clear deliverables. Ready for the next team.

The deliverable list is agreed at the start. Each issue identifies its purpose, revision and outstanding inputs for the next project stage.

  • Concept and general arrangement drawings
  • Weight, stability and performance study outputs
  • Hull and production engineering drawings
  • Piping, electrical and machinery-system documentation
  • Analysis and class-submission support packages
  • Retrofit and as-built records

03 / How we work

A clear route from requirement to handover.

We establish the design basis first, then develop and review the package with your project team.

  1. 01

    Agree the requirement

Confirm vessel requirements and design responsibilities.

  2. 02

    Develop the package

Develop arrangements and coordinate hull and system interfaces.

  3. 03

    Review & coordinate

Complete the agreed studies and submission documents.

  4. 04

    Issue & hand over

Issue production or retrofit information and address review comments.

04 / The technical context

Aligned with your facility and requirements.

The equipment duty, project location and client standards determine the methods, platforms and acceptance criteria.

Industries & applications

Marine vessels, shipyard production, onboard piping and machinery systems, and retrofit or conversion projects. Scope follows the vessel mission, operating envelope and approval route.

Software & digital delivery

Marine CAD, structural analysis and CFD tools are selected for the vessel and study. Production drawing, geometry exchange and model requirements are agreed with the shipyard and the relevant design partners before detailed work begins.

Standards & design basis

The selected classification society rules, flag-state requirements and applicable maritime requirements govern the package. The submission scope, review responsibilities and design assumptions are agreed; acceptance remains with the relevant approval body.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers to common scope and coordination questions.

How do concept drawings differ from production drawings?
Concept drawings establish arrangement and preliminary design decisions. Production drawings develop the approved basis into the details, material information and assembly instructions needed by the shipyard.
Can existing vessels be modified?
Yes. Retrofit engineering begins with the available vessel records and verified onboard conditions, with interfaces and space constraints assessed before detailing.
Does preparing class-submission drawings guarantee approval?
No. The design package is prepared for the agreed review route, and review comments are addressed within scope. The classification society or relevant authority makes the approval decision.
What is needed for a retrofit study?
Existing drawings, vessel particulars, available surveys, system duties, space and weight constraints, and the intended operating changes. Missing as-built information and approval interfaces are identified before the retrofit package is finalized.
